The speed limit on the property is 30km/h, please respect this to minimise dust disturbance, for your own safety, the safety of other guests and for the integrity of the road. We have spent a considerable amount of money ensuring our internal roads are 2WD friendly to allow easy access to the tents for the guests and driving at speed on these roads causes considerable damage to them.
Note that there are about 3 kms of dirt/gravel public road to access the property, however this road is council maintained and 2WD accessible in all weather conditions. Please note that whilst most 2WD Vehicles have no issue driving the road (including many guests who have arrived in expensive sports vehicles without issue), we do not accept any responsibility if you do not wish to drive along it, and will not cover any transport costs as a result. Please also keep in mind that Mudgee has many dirt roads in the region, many of which lead to the popular wineries. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to get in touch.
The speed limit on Lower Piambong road is 100km/h (we tend to drive around 70km/h – 80 km/h in our 2WD vehicles) – however please feel free to drive at a speed that you feel safe doing. We simply ask that if you drive slowly, you stick to the left of the road, and if another vehicle approaches from behind driving faster than you are, simply pull over and allow them to pass. We share this road with our neighbours and everyone who lives on Lower and Upper Piambong, so we’d really appreciate your understanding and co-operation.
For your own safety, please stick to the dirt/gravel roads, please DO NOT drive into the paddocks (even if you drive a 4WD). This will only cause damage to your vehicle and to our paddocks. Our land has very rocky terrain so there are large rocks and boulders hidden under the grass that will damage your vehicle.
Everything Else
Due to our remote location, phone signal will vary depending on the
network. Telstra is the most reliable with Optus not far behind it. At your room you will have coverage on both Telstra and Optus, but Vodafone can be patchy. Please make sure your phone is set with
roaming on to take advantage of Vodafones regional agreement with Optus
(the network name should change to Vodafone R).
For privacy and quiet enjoyment, only paying guests are allowed on the property. Unapproved visitors will be asked to leave and fees may apply.
Sierra is designed for rest and relaxation — no parties or gatherings. Max 2 adults in/around a tent at any time.
If you do decide to travel with your friends to Sierra Escape, we ask you to respect the quiet enjoyment of other guests, and avoid congregating together on the property.
The pool & outdoor lounge are on the glamping-tent section.
Drive back to the front gate, turn left, continue ~1 km to the laneway with a Sierra Escape sign.
Turn left and drive to the timber gate.

You are welcome to make use of the beautiful swimming pool and lounge area. In Summer, you will find two pool towels in your tent.
Please use the ones from your room and leave them in the tent on departure. Further instructions for the pool can be found in the compendium.

Password: Escaping@Sierra. We can’t provide tech support, but any bug reports help us improve.

There’s a detailed compendium in your room. In warm weather, open windows on arrival to cool quickly. Use fan as needed and switch off when leaving.
In Summer the air-conditioning will be enabled in the guest portal, which you can switch on or off as needed.
Enjoy the bathtubs — please use only the provided bath salts/products. Other products can damage our septic system.
Sierra runs on solar and tank water.
Take short showers; half-flush where possible.
Lighting/phones/laptops are fine. Avoid high-wattage appliances (hairdryers/straighteners are OK at the Tiny House — unplug after use).
Septic: only body waste and toilet paper down the toilet.
Avoid turning on multiple kitchen devices at once (E.g Microwave and Kettle) as it will trip the circuit.
Sierra is completely off-grid. We rely on our own tank water, and solar for energy. So please make sure you take short showers to conserve water and half-flush where possible.
We have enough power to run the lighting, charge phones, cameras and laptops. There is a power-point however its only designed to run low wattage appliances (laptops, ipod speakers etc) – so please do not try to plug hair dryers or straighteners into here – it will only trip the circuit breaker, and a call-out fee for an electrician to reset the power will apply.
The toilet is a septic waste system, so only body waste and toilet paper down the toilet please. Other items will cause blockages and failures – which are expensive to rectify.
The tap water is treated and safe for drinking

Firewood supply: We provide firelighters and firewood Apr–Oct. Outside these months, use the fireplace at your own risk and BYO supplies.
How to light
Use one firelighter plus kindling (fallen sticks around the property are fine).
Keep the door slightly ajar while the fire catches to avoid smoke.
Start with the small timber inside the tent. After a solid bed of embers (about 15–30 min), add a small log, then larger logs for a longer burn.
Air & smoke
Keep the air-intake slider open while starting.
If it’s smoky, it needs more heat or oxygen—open the slider or crack the door.
Safety/clearances
Make sure the canvas flap and curtains do not touch the stove or flue.
Overnight burn
Only when the fire is very hot, add 1–2 larger logs and close the air-intake for a slow burn.
Don’t do this with a new/cool fire—it will smoke.
Checkout
Don’t build up the fire on the morning of departure. Let it die down 1–1.5 hours before checkout.
Do not empty the fireplace on departure.
Ash disposal (during stay)
When fully cold, place ashes in the green drums behind the tent.
No rubbish in the drums; never tip ashes on the grass.
Winter setup
In winter, the fireplace is pre-set with kindling and firelighters. You can collect extra kindling from fallen sticks.

No fire pits Dec 1 – Apr 1 and on any declared total fire ban days. Dates may change based on conditions — follow on-site notices.
Outside these periods: use only fallen branches/sticks, never leave fires unattended, extinguish with water, and don’t use in windy or hot conditions.
