What is Sierra Escape?
Sierra Escape is luxury Mudgee accommodation like you’ve never seen before. An award-winning, adults-only, eco-glamping experience, located only 20 minutes drive to the town of Mudgee. Surrounded by beautiful rolling hills, and breathtaking views – Sierra provides an opportunity to escape from busy city life and immerse yourself in country NSW.
Our Mudgee glamping tents are Australian made from the highest quality material, well insulated for warmth in winter, and have large windows for the cooling summer breeze. Designed for comfort and luxury, reset your senses with a relaxing bath, toasting marshmallows on an open campfire or simply sit on the deck with a good book and a heavenly glass of Mudgee wine whilst the sun goes down.
Situated on over 280 acres, Sierra is home to many kangaroos, deer, native birds and many other kinds of Australian wildlife. After a day of wine tasting among Mudgee’s famous wineries, take a sunset walk up to the top of Sierra lookout, or relax by our beautiful swimming pool and take in the stunning surrounding landscape. WHO ARE WE?
We wanted to take an opportunity to introduce you to the faces behind Sierra Escape. This is our young family, sitting inside Wirra, one of our luxury glamping tents in Mudgee. Clockwise from the left, Cam (36), Tasch (34), Harper (4) and Hunter (1). It’s lovely to meet you.
Back in 2017, we embarked on a remarkable journey, with a vision to turn an empty farming block into the region’s first luxury glamping retreat. Having traveled to the region as guests, we noticed at the time that there wasn’t any luxury accommodation that catered for couples, outside of the hotels in town. Our dream was to create a haven where guests could immerse themselves in nature without compromising on comfort.
Meticulous effort has gone into creating an experience that is unparalleled in NSW and Australia, and we’re continuously looking for ways to improve.
Once we finished building the Carinya tent, we were blown away by the demand for a Mudgee glamping experience. It was clear that people were craving something special, so we set our sights on expansion. In 2018, we proudly introduced two new additions: Uralla and Dulili. It was here we trialed our now famous outdoor baths, the success of which lead us to adding these to all tents. Fast forward to 2021, and an ever increasing demand, lead to us adding two more tents: Alkira and Wirra.
Sustainability lies at the heart of what we do. From the very beginning, we made a commitment to be entirely off-grid for power, harnessing the energy of the sun to provide an eco-friendly experience. With dedication, naivety and perseverance, we transformed 300 acres of untamed land into a place of beauty and tranquility. Along the way, we learned valuable lessons that shaped Sierra Escape into what it is today – a testament to the power of resilience and passion.
We began with one tent (Carinya), and took Sierra from a tent on a farming block (and literally nothing else) to a luxury retreat with 5 glamping tents, 1 tiny house and a stunning swimming pool/outdoor lounge. Our pursuit of excellence has not gone unnoticed. We are humbled to have received prestigious accolades, including the NSW and Australian Tourism Awards, earning us a well-deserved place in the Hall of Fame in 2021. These achievements fuel our determination to continually raise the bar and provide an unforgettable experience for our guests.
Sierra Escape has grown with our family, and we now have two beautiful children who inspire us every day. This retreat is not just a business for us; it’s a labor of love that we pour our hearts into to create cherished memories for all who visit. We are continually inspired by the feedback and suggestions from our guests, which have shaped Sierra Escape’s evolution over the past six years.
